BREAD & PUPPET Printshop Internship: Week 3

Bread & Puppet Printshop Internship: Week 3
(July 11-17, 2012)  The first Circus and Pageant of the summer starts on the 15th, and I knew the farm will get a visit from the lawnmower soon, so I made it a point to walk the fields at sunset while I could.  And glad I did! The very next day after this picture was taken, cut grass lay scattered like dry brush, leveled down from waist-high to just a little above our ankles!
The Van Store in the field was also thick with tall grass!  Michelle and I spent two afternoons on our hands and knees cutting the grass carefully with hand sickles.  After sweating it out in the hot sun, we rode our bikes downhill to the Glover Library for free wifi, then walked over to the nearby Red Sky Trading, for great coffee, well-deserved treats, and cool rock formations.  The Barton River which ran alongside the garden was our refuge, and I spent many hours here, kicking back on the Adirondack chairs, thinking up new ways of reusing old Bread & Puppet calendars.
Michelle & I designed display boxes for Peter Schumann’s Jingle Books,
and I devised templates for folding envelopes made from old calendar pages.
During the day, Lila kept us busy printing banners and painting posters.

At dusk, we headed to the creek and fished out freshly-chilled, locally-made, organic beers.
